Dominican Republic Vacations

By Dave Pipitone

How do Dominican Republic vacations differ from those of other Caribbean islands?

For one, the Dominican Republic is not just a small island. It is a fairly large country occupying two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean. So what does that mean?

Dominican Republic vacations would require you more time of stay if you want to see the many things that the country has to offer. Booking one of the many Dominican Republic vacation packages offers you an itinerary that can get the most of the fantastic sights in one visit. So unless you have forever to spare, plan out your itinerary and make the most out of your Dominican Republic vacations.

You have probably read about the different parts of the country and what activities are best done in each area. Accommodations may be well-taken cared of already, and you feel that you are just about ready to head out to that dream vacation. But before you start packing, there are several very helpful tips that will certainly come in handy.

What to Pack

Dominican Republic vacations mean "dressing light". Pack in shorts, shirts, sandals, light jacket for the evenings, bathing suit, and sneakers for sports activities. Some hotels and other establishments have dress codes so thrown in an appropriate set as well.

How to Get Around

There is one airline company that can take you to the different tourist destinations throughout the country. For about $50 per flight, this is the fastest and most convenient mode of transportation.

Buses are a more popular choice though because they’re inexpensive. Some large bus companies offer comfortable travel, although small-scale bus operators are less comfortable to travel in but are still mostly favored by the locals because the fares are generally less than $2 only.

Car rental is understandably very expensive, making motorcycle rental a much better alternative. They can also take you to paths that are otherwise not accessible by cars and buses.

Money Matters

While the U.S. dollar is widely accepted as with the major credit cards, it is best to bring along travelers cheques in U.S. dollar. Exchanging your cash can be best done in banks as they offer the best rates, but remember that you can reconvert only up to 30% of your cash.

Food and Water

Dominican Republic vacations wouldn’t be complete unless you get to taste their most popular dishes which are served almost everywhere. Tap water is not safe to drink, however, bottled ones are always available.

Safety

<

There have been talks about the increase in mugging and robbery cases, but it does not mean that Dominican Republic vacations are unsafe. Personal discretion is needed to keep you away from such circumstances.

Like all other vacations, Dominican Republic vacations entail careful planning too unless you want to leave with a heavy heart knowing that you missed out on a lot of things. So many things to see and do, so little time.
