Every year tourists join the locals and avid followers in these festivals in the Dominican Republic, to feel and enjoy the excitement. Here are some of the well celebrated festivals in the Dominican Republic.

Dominican Carnival

One of the most prominent festivals in the Dominican Republic is the Dominican Carnival. The Dominican Carnival is commemorated every weekend of the month of February and is one of the most colorful traditions and cheerful festivity in the country.

The climax of this festivity in the Dominican Republic is on the last days of the month of February, however, in some years, the apex falls on the 27th of the month of February (the same day as the independence day of the Dominican Republic.)

This festival celebration is the result of the mixture of religions and cultures of the Dominican Republic. This tradition was brought by the earliest Spanish colonizers to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. This celebration was first commemorated on the day of the Corpus Cristi, by which was eventually combined with the native ethnicity and pagan merriment of the island.

Santo Domingo Merengue Festival

This is one of the week long festivals in the Dominican Republic that commemorates the national dance of the country.

The Santo Domingo Merengue Festival is held in the capital city “Santo Domingo”, and is usually celebrated on the last week of July or on the first week of August.

This is a musical Dominican Republic festival that is celebrated on the seaside and encourages its attendees to drink, eat and dance (to summarize "have a great time.")

Dominican Republic Jazz Festival

This is one of the many musical festivals in the Dominican Republic that is held every October of the year. The festivity is presented at three of the most scenic coast settings in the country. These are in the: Cabarete, Sosua and Puerto Plata.

This festivity is attended by some of the internationally renowned artist all over the world (such as Ricky Martin.)

The Dominican Republic is not only known for its historical attractions, it is also known for its festivities. Tourists visit the Dominican Republic to unwind and take pleasure in the beauty of nature and also to experience the atmosphere of its festivities.
