Golfing in Jamaica

By Dave Pipitone

Golfing in Jamaica allows you to have a great round while experiencing the beauty of the island.

When PGA golfers head to the Caribbean Islands, they are not just after the undeniable pristine waters and pink sands that they are naturally blessed with.

Instead, they are raring to play golf in Jamaica as they have fresh courses that have been constructed as well as with the old classics that they were able to excellently maintain.

Montego Bay is the most popular destination when desiring to experience golf in Jamaica. There are the likes of The White Witch Course at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall, Super Clubs Golf Club, The Tyrall Course, Half Moon Golf Club and Three Palms Ocean Course at Wyndham Rose Hall.

The White Witch Course at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall is a terrific spot for gold in Jamaica. It was named after a 19th century mistress of one who owned a 4, 000 acre sugar plantation who ill-treated her slaves and was also able to slain three of her husbands.

Natives say that Annee Palmer continues to let her presence felt at the estate grounds and even at the two expansions that were recently built. Maybe there is some truth to the rumors as there are already balls and putts that have never been recovered back.

The White Witch Course was designed by an architectural team composed of Rick Baril, Robert Von Hagge and Mike Smelek. It was opened in August of 2000 as the highlight of the new Ritz Carlton Rose Hall.

The Tyrall Course is considered as among the premium tournament venues not only in the country but all throughout the Caribbean.

Thanks to their diligent personnel who was able to revive its world- class form and now with second driving range as well as other facilities for practice. It stretches to about 6, 772 yards starting from the ocean up to the forested hills.

The fairways stretch through coconut groves, flowering plants and majestic trees. Just over the seventh hole, there is an 18th century water wheel that is still functioning and has been once powered by the sugar mills.

Three Palms Ocean Course at Wyndham Rose Hall is unmistakably a superb location for golf in Jamaica.

The course has that "split personality" of about 6,798 yard par 71 lay out. It has front nine opens that gently rolls beneath the stare of the 18th century- old Wyndham Rose Hall. It rambles past the walled graveyard of Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s family that stretches down to the ocean.

Both holes seven and eight are near the sea that the zephyr can easily whip the ball into the deep. The ninth hole is completely opposite. It lays in the remote hills of the plantation making its entry through narrow canyons and across profound chasms. This is made with a resort professional in mind which needless to speak, will ravishly beguile individuals.

Golfing in Jamaica is fun and scenic. Make sure to pack your clubs and reserve your tee times in advance.
